First and Second Place winners for grades 2-5 will compete in the district-wide spelling bee contest held at Garrison on Friday, May 25, 2012.  Congratulations and good luck to everyone!

Singing the blues as a means to improve their academic skills, first-graders in Jon Schwartz’s class at Garrison Elementary School showed off their talents at Tuesday’s OUSD Board of Education meeting.  The tiny singers belted out the classic “Sweet Home Chicago” to help open the meeting.

A professional musician, Schwartz uses his musical talents as a means to help improve the reading, writing and math skills of his students.  Click Blues Band to read the Union Tribune’s full story on how Garrison Elementary School works to combine visual and performing arts with literacy, language acquisition and development and math.
